Sleep Apnea

At our office we have been involved in advanced studies to help treat sleep disorders such as obstructive sleep apnea. If any of you have ever awakened in the middle of the night gasping for air or been told to "roll over" by your significant other because you were keeping them awake due to your snoring, then you might suffer from obstructive sleep apnea.

I myself have experienced waking up and gasping for air in the middle of the night because I'm not getting enough oxygen down my trachea (windpipe) due to obstructive sleep apnea. I also know my wife is tired of constantly telling me to rollover, and I'm tired of waking up in the morning feeling tired due to a stressful night's sleep, caused by lack of oxygen.

The best treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is a CPAP (CONTINUOUS POSITIVE AIR PRESSURE) machine, but a large portion of people cannot tolerate wearing an oxygen mask and having air pumped down their windpipe all night, every night,

The next best treatment for obstructive sleep apnea is an oral appliance. Basically an oral appliance is a "custom fit bite guard" that gently and precisely moves your tongue and lower jaw forward. By doing this your airway is kept open allowing life sustaining oxygen to get to your heart, your brain and all the other organs in your body. Without this continuous flow of oxygen, undue stress is put on every part of your body and can lead to heart attacks, high blood pressure, strokes, and diabetes, just to name a few serious problems.

The bottom line is, if you or a loved one exhibit any of these symptoms give us a call and we will be happy to provide you with more information.
