Nitrous Oxide, more commonly known as laughing gas, is the most commonly used form of sedation in dentistry. It is administered by having the patient breathe in the gas using a nasal mask. The gas helps patients feel more relaxed and have a sense of well-being while they are receiving treatment.
Nitrous oxide sedation is very safe and effective. Once the procedure is over the nitrous oxide will wear off fairly quickly, and most patients will be able to drive and return to their daily activities.
