Gluten Free Dentistry

Providing a Gluten Free Dental Visit

A safe environment for you

Mother_Daughter3.jpgCeliac disease is an inherited, autoimmune disease in which the lining of the small intestine is damaged from eating gluten and other proteins found in wheat, barley, rye, and possibly oats.

Celiac disease was thought to be a rare childhood syndrome. However, it is now known to be much more common. More than 2 million people in the United States have the disease, about 1 in 133 people. Among people who have a parent, sibling, or child diagnosed with celiac disease, as many as 1 in 22 people may have the disease.

Dentistry uses a variety of materials: composite fillings, bonding agents, infection control products, impression materials and whitening products, just to name a few. Due to the nature of celiac disease, any gluten containing substance cFamily6.jpgould be a concern.

Dr. Andow has made it a vow not to use gluten in his office because of its ubiquitous nature. His dental team has investigated every product his office uses for patient care. They have contacted every distributor and manufacturer and have specifically asked whether their products contains gluten. They currently use only gluten free dental materials, not only for their celiac patients but for all their patients.
