Dental Bonding

Restore your teeth with dental bonding

If you have a tooth that is damaged, you may think there is no easy solution. However, dental bonding may help. Bonding not only makes teeth look better. It is an easy and quick way to save a tooth that is damaged. Dr. Talib Salim Ali and the team at Leesburg Family Dental are happy to offer bonding to help patients, so they can have healthy teeth and great smiles!

What is dental bonding?

Dental bonding is the use of tooth-colored resin to repair a tooth. It is very easy to sculpt and can be colored to look just like the patient’s other teeth, making it the perfect material to use to correct problems.

What problems can dental bonding help?

Dental bonding will help many problems from those that are aesthetic to issues that can cause serious problems if they aren’t fixed.

Dental bonding can be used to cover teeth that are severely discolored when tooth whitening methods don’t work. It can be used when teeth have cracks, are broken, have enamel missing or have other damage. It can be used to build up teeth that are short or uneven, which can cause problems with a person’s bite. It can be used when there are wide gaps in between teeth. And, it can be used when a patient has extensive tooth decay.

What is the procedure for dental bonding?

The procedure to get dental bonding can often be done in one visit to Dr. Ali’s office, and usually, the patient won’t even have to have the tooth numbed.

Dr. Ali will perform a thorough examination to make sure that dental bonding is the right solution for your problem. If he decides it is, it is a simple procedure. He will first select the right color of the bonding material, so that it matches the color of the other teeth. He will etch the surface of the tooth so that the bonding material will adhere to it. Then, he will apply adhesive to the tooth, and then the bonding material. He will shape the bonding material so that it looks natural, and then harden it quickly using an ultraviolet light.

Why should I bother getting my tooth repaired?

If damaged teeth aren’t repaired, it can cause many painful (and expensive) dental health problems in the future for the patient. If a tooth is cracked, decayed or otherwise damaged and it isn’t repaired, the damage will only get worse. The inside of the tooth may get infected, which may require a root canal, or the tooth may need to be pulled. And of course, having missing teeth can lead to many other problems.

Dental bonding can take care of tooth damage or aesthetic problems with teeth quickly, effectively and affordably.

How do I take care of my dental bonding?

As always, the most important thing for taking care of your teeth is to keep up good oral hygiene habits: brush twice a day, floss once a day, and visit Dr. Ali twice a year for your exams and cleanings.

There a few other things to remember to keep your dental bonding looking great:

  • Avoid hard, chewy and sticky foods for the first day after you get dental bonding
  • If your front teeth have been bonded, try to avoid biting into hard foods such as apples
  • Some foods and drinks may stain dental bonding. Avoid tobacco, red wine, blueberries, coffee and tea.
  • If you grind or clench your teeth, this can damage your bonding (as well as your other teeth and your jaw!)
  • Avoid bad habits such as chewing on ice, pens and finger nails, and avoid using your teeth as a tool to open things
  • Acidic foods and liquids like pineapple, alcohol, vinegar and tomatoes can damage bonding
  • Smoking can also stain dental bonding

Dr. Ali may give you other instructions to ensure your bonding is protected.

How much does dental bonding cost?

As with any procedure, the cost of dental bonding varies depending on different factors involved. However, Leesburg Family Dental takes many different kinds of insurance, and the staff would be happy to work with you and your insurance company to see how much of this procedure they might cover.
